Research Methodology

Updated 7 months ago by Alan Reed

At TradingHours.com, data accuracy and reliability are our top priorities. We rely on our rigorous research processes and proprietary tooling to ensure that our data remains as accurate and up-to-date as humanly possible.

Research Team

Our in-house research team monitors news sources and exchange websites to gather information on market holidays and trading hours. Data is collected from primary sources and verified at the source.

Data Verification

We use both manual and automated processes to identify and correct errors. Our verification procedures include:

  • Heuristic Analysis: Identifying inconsistencies and anomalies.
  • Automated Checks: Running systematized validation processes.
  • Manual Reviews: Ensuring accuracy through human oversight.

Once verified, updates are immediately made available to clients.

Data Sources

Our research relies exclusively on authoritative sources, including:

  • Official exchange websites
  • Exchange rules and regulations
  • Circulars and publications from exchanges
  • Government notifications affecting markets
  • Verified news sources
  • Established relationships with exchanges and trusted market participants

Data Organization

We track over 1,100 distinct trading schedules. Traditional market identifiers, such as MICs, are not sufficiently granular to differentiate all trading schedules. To address this, we use FinIDs, our proprietary coding system designed to uniquely identify each market schedule.

For example, while CME has eight MIC codes, we track 74 distinct trading schedules within CME, reflecting differences in trading hours and holidays across various products, such as Grain, Cattle, Oil, etc.

Limitations

We do not monitor trading feeds for halts or circuit breakers in real time. Instead, we track exchange communications (memos, circulars, etc.) and update our data when changes are announced.

Error Handling and Process Improvement

No dataset is perfect, but we guarantee over 99.9% accuracy across our entire database. When an error is identified, we:

  1. Verify the correct information and immediately distribute updates.
  2. Conduct Root Cause Analysis to determine the source of the issue.
  3. Implement process improvements to prevent similar errors in the future.

Our research team continuously refines our methodology to improve data reliability.
